Photosensibilized degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride over silica films modified by silver and gold nanoparticles

Abstract

Sol-gel method was used in the synthesis of silica films modified by mono- and bimetallic Ag, Au as well as Ag-Au nanoparticles. UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM and XPS were applied to investigate the structural properties of the films. The particle sizes and the morphology of the films were revealed. Photosensibilized degradation of antibiotics tetracycline hydrochloride in the presence of the above-mentioned films was studied. The experimental results show the increase of the degradation rate in the presence of noble metal modified silica films.
